“It’s sufficiently well written that I kept reading, without being actually good.”

This is mostly my reading life. I’m slowly learning to put them down now

Setlled on using #Shotwell after close to a month of using both, Shotwell and #Digikam
Both handled my library with aplomb, with no issues. Both are awesome.
I could search, browse and find anything I wanted just the way I could with Lightroom classic.
You can’t go wrong with either.
Only settled on Shotwell, for purely subjective reasons; my mind just works better with it.

An excellent historical through line from Jack Welch’s awful practices to modern management
“ When Mira Murati said that AI was killing creative jobs that “should never have been there in the first place,” it wasn’t just a grotesque insult to those actually working in creative professions like journalism, design, and software engineering — though it was. Nor was it merely a demonstration of her unchained sociopathy and hubris, and the fact that she believes that she — a woman of little actual accomplishment and talent, and the intellectual depth of a puddle on a flat sidewalk — is singularly ordained to decide which jobs are worthy, and which jobs deserve to die.
Really, it was an insult to all of us. It was an expression of her belief that consumers don’t deserve things created by a person who actually gives a shit. You don’t deserve to watch movies that only exist thanks to the combined efforts of illustrators, sound engineers, composers, actors, writers, directors, and countless other uncelebrated roles, where each cog in the machine has spent years honing their skills until they’ve reached a level of unassailable mastery.
You, yes you, don’t deserve to use software created by someone who actually thought about the problem and — at the very least — makes a best effort to write secure, robust code.”

Gotten used to the layout for the most part. The arrow keys are still very troublesome and trip me up all the time. Realise how deep muscle memory actually is.
The only reason I don’t want to change them, is that they (the new keys) are easy on my fingers and when I’m intentional about them, are easy to use.
The Compose key and the :
keys will still take a while getting used to.
Have gotten the hang of /, ?, = and + though.
Have gotten back to my old speed. My error rate is still *really* high. Most of my friends have now gotten used to my typos 😂

Sound familiar?
That same siren song of laborsaving technology echoed throughout the twentieth century, with vacuums and dishwashers and personal computers and 5G networks and on and on and on.
Yet the average number of hours worked (both waged work and housework) hasn’t budged.
The present-day fiction of so-called AI is the same story, second verse.
The people urging AI on us won’t save labor; they will try to degrade that labor, to further alienate us from it, to demand that we work as long and hard and hopelessly as ever.
Unless we refuse.
