I have no words to offer which may comfort the reader who is also a castaway, except that rescue may come at any time but not necessarily when you expect it;
and that even if you give up hope, you must never give up trying, for, as the result of your efforts, hope may well return and with justification

Because I wrote a book called *Steal Like an Artist*, some people think I’m really interested in plagiarism. Actually, I’m much more interested in *forgery*.
“Plagiarism is the flip side of forgery,” wrote Andrew Potter in *The Authenticity Hoax*. “Forgers pass off their own work as that of someone else, while plagiarists pass off the work of others as their own.”
In other words: Plagiarism is taking credit for someone else’s work. Forgery is giving someone else credit for work you create.
The difference is you *doing the work*.

Herbert Lui on doing the work and self promotion
“Making good work is like a muscle, one that wears away within days or even hours. The best thing you can do is exercise it every day. While you may publish every day, you don’t need to promote all of it; just the good stuff.”

“There is and can be no ultimate solution for us to discover, but instead a permanent need for balancing contradictory claims, for careful trade-offs between conflicting values, toleration of difference, consideration of the specific factors at play when a choice is needed, not reliance on an abstract blueprint claimed to be applicable everywhere, always, to all people.”
